“In exactly one year from now, we will meet on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, and we can look forward to this moment with great anticipation because our Chinese hosts have already prepared everything”, said President Bach.

Speaking from the Olympic House in Lausanne, IOC President Thomas Bach delivered a message of positivity to mark the occasion of #1YearToGo to the Opening Ceremony of Beijing 2022.

“All the venues are ready for you and they are also taking care of a safe and secure Olympic Winter Games for every participant”, he added.

Although COVID-19 continues to affect communities around the world, the IOC President highlights how China has carefully planned the Games, and how International Federations have also held safe winter sports competitions.

“We have seen how China is about to overcome the coronavirus crisis, and you have had many experiences in your competitions during this winter [showing] that winter sports can be organised [even] without the benefit of vaccinations and other scientific tools and you have done so successfully,” said President Bach.

He also gave a presentation on Monday 1 February on the Global Athlete Network Commission Call, where he reiterated the focus which the IOC is putting on delivering successful Olympic Games, both in Tokyo and Beijing.

President Bach concluded his video with a reassuring message to athletes, saying: “Be confident that when you come to Beijing in 2022 you will enjoy a safe environment and you can look forward to a fair competition for everybody. See you then!”
