Media Invitation - 30th anniversary of the Olypmic Congress in Baden-Baden

Celebration Ceremony on Wednesday 28 September 2011

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) is delighted to invite you to Baden-Baden to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 11th Olympic Congress in 1981.

 

To mark the momentous occasion, the DOSB led by President Thomas Bach, is hosting a celebration ceremony at the Benazet Saal in the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden on Wednesday 28 September 2011.

 

We look forward to welcoming you to this special celebration which features a keynote speech from Dr. Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC, in the presence of a number of high profile attendees. Guests of honour include HSH the Sovereign Prince Albert II of Monaco; Pal Schmitt, President of Hungary; Lord Sebastian Coe, Chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee; Frank Fredericks, Chairman of the IOC Athletes’ Commission; Nadia Comaneci, five-time Olympic champion in gymnastics, from Romania; Kip Keino, two-time Olympic champion in athletics from Kenya; and Peter Tallberg, five-time Olympic competitor in sailing and the first-ever Chairman of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, from Finland.

 

The celebration will be held to commemorate the 11th Olympic Congress in September 1981 during which ground-breaking changes in the history of the Olympic Movement were initiated in front of 469 delegates. The Congress saw proposals for the abolition of amateur rules and the establishment of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, both of which have since been implemented by the Olympic Movement.

 

The Schedule:

 

10.15am: Arrival of guests at the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden (photo opportunity).

 

11.00am: The ceremony

 

• Opening remarks by Thomas Bach, Founding member of the IOC Athletes Commission

• Keynote speech by Dr. Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC

• Presentation by Peter Tallberg, the first-ever Chairman of the IOC Athletes Commission

• Panel discussion with founding, former and current members of the IOC Athletes Commission

 

There are two areas available for photographers and camera crews during the ceremony, one at the side of the auditorium and the other at the back, with a full view of the stage.

 

1.00pm: Lunch

 

Media representatives are welcome to attend the lunch but filming and photography will not be permitted at this stage.
