THE GERMAN OLYMPIC INSTITUTE

In November 1989 the Meeting of Members of the NOC had decided to set up a National Olympic Institute (NOI) in Berlin and on 17th November 1990 it was founded as German Olympic Institute (DOI). The DOI acts as a center for research, studies and meetings.

Even before the foundation of the DOI the NOC had tackled and discussed with competence olympic and sport-specific problems in the past. Examples are the symposia held in cooperation with the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in the run-up of the Olympic Congress in Baden-Baden in 1981 as well as the organization of an ethic seminar entitled "Victory first - Moral second?" which took place in Hannover in 1989 - symposia which aroused considerable public attention.
