WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO

As to the rules of the IOC the National Olympic Committee is an independent and autonomous organization within the self-government of German sport.

According to its constitution it serves the propagation of the olympic idea in all its forms in the Federal Republic of Germany, prepares the participation of German sports in the Olympic Games and carries out tasks which are assigned to the NOCs by the IOC. It maintains contacts to the NOCs of other countries throughout the world. The NOC has been entered in the register of associations as a pure non-profit organization which pursues no economic profit. The NOC finances its work by

  • membership fees
  • receipts from the lottery "GlücksSpirale"
  • economic measures, above all by giving licenses

A particular role is played by the coin programs of Olympic Organizing Committees and license agreements on the use of the Olympic Rings.

For special tasks the NOC is given financial means by the Federal Government within the framework of the so-called "promotion of projects", for example for measures for the promotion of sport in developing countries and for sending teams to the Olympic Games.
