Sporting and elegant, fashionable and modern: Germany’s athletes at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London are sure to attract attention. This was immediately apparent when sportsmen and women of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the German National Paralympic Committee (DBS) presented the official team outfits by general outfitter adidas and outfitters Bogner and Sioux at a fashion show.

“The team outfit is fashionable and functional, and has a high recognition value. The gar¬ments are tailored perfectly to the needs of the athletes. I am sure that our team members will feel really good in them and be first-class representatives for Germany”, said DOSB President Thomas Bach in Germany’s fashion capital, Düsseldorf. Prior to this, the Olympic and Paralympic athletes presented the outfits to guests and representatives of the media in a one-hour fashion show.

The outfits for the around 400 athletes of the German Olympic Team and the approximately 170 Paralympic competitors, as well as for the several hundred officials, have been designed in terms of colour, material and cut for the climatic conditions to be expected in London.

“The Olympic Games have always been – amongst others – a big, trend-setting fashion show, and this will be the case in London, too, where the outfits of the German athletes are sure to attract a lot of attention”, said German Chef de Mission Michael Vesper.

As in Beijing in 2008 and Vancouver in 2010, the German teams for the Olympic and Paralympic Games will have the same outfits. “This is a signal from the world of sport to society in general for inclusion – for complete integration as equals into cultural and sporting life. Our athletes will represent our country with pride”, declared DBS President Friedhelm Julius Beucher.

The complete outfits, which adidas will provide for volunteers and torchbearers (1.5 million products), and the garments to be worn by the adidas athletes in the Olympic Village, contain sustainable components. adidas is the Olympic brand – athletes wore special shoes from Adi Dassler’s workshop for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam.

In addition to adidas, Bogner and Sioux are also official outfitters of the German Olympic and Paralympic Teams. Bogner is providing the garments for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as official events; Sioux the shoes for these events.

With two bright and spectacular colours – light blue and pink – Bogner aims to attract the attention of billions of television viewers at the four ceremonies and is producing a range of garments including colourful reversible jackets and scarves, as well as white shirts, trousers and hats. The reversible jackets can be transformed quickly and easily into sober dark-blue jackets for evening events and receptions. Shoemaker Sioux has been supplying the German Olympic Team for 40 years and is taking part in London for the 22nd time as an outfitter.
